Ovechkin Scores 930th Career Goal

Despite the Caps’ 5-3 loss to the Seattle Kraken on Sunday, Alex Ovechkin got his first of the season, and 930th career goal. He did so in the first period, at even strength, which was assisted by the Protas brothers, Ilya and Aliaksei.

For Ilya Protas, it was his first career assist to Ovi, making him the 128th player to give the NHL’s all-time leading goal scorer a helper. (He’s also the second player named Ilya. Ilya Kovalchuk is the other.)

Ovi also scored his first goal against Joey Daccord, in five matchups. Ovi previously had an assist against Daccord, and has 17 total shots against him. Daccord is the 190th goalie who Ovechkin has scored on, which is a league record.
