Coming off an embarrassing loss to the Coyotes, the Capitals bounced back against their old archrivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins, with a 6-0 victory on the road.

It’s the largest margin of victory for Washington at Pittsburgh since October 29th, 1991, where the Caps shut out the Penguins, 8-0.

The first goal came on the penalty kill for Washington at the beginning of the game, as Tom Wilson batted the puck in the net for the shorthanded goal.

The Capitals then scored four goals in the second period, with the first tally being scored by Alex Ovechkin on the power play, marking his 18th of the season and the 840th of his career.

The next three Washington goals came from Nick Jensen for the first time this season, Hendrix Lapierre, and Ivan Miroshnichenko for his first NHL goal.

The sixth and final goal came early in the third period when Sonny Milano scored for the ninth time this year.

Washington goalie Charlie Lindgren stopped all 39 shots faced to earn his fourth shutout this year and the sixth of his career.

With the win, the Caps improve to 29-23-9 with 67 points and in fifth place in the Metropolitan Division.
