Rest in Peace, That Guy at the 9:30 Club

One of the most familiar faces in DC-area security has passed awayJosh Burdette, 36, known as ‘That Guy at the 9:30 Club,’ was an avid Caps and Redskins fan, posing for Caps Outsider with his personalized jersey a few years ago. Burdette studied psychology at the University of Maryland, and has been working in security ever since. He’s been written about countless times over the years in magazines and newspapers.

Burdette maintained a popular Facebook page, where he often posted things few would expect from a man of his looks and stature. His last post came a couple of weeks ago, when he said that Jim Henson’s ‘Rainbow Connection’ is one of his favorite songs.

My last interaction with Burdette came a couple of months ago, when I witnessed him defusing a situation at a concert involving a skinhead. Seeing that gave me a newfound appreciation for what he did, and I even wrote about it.

Rest in peace, Josh. Heaven just got a whole lot safer.
