Capitals Drop Game 1 Against Rangers

Martin Fehervary scored the lone goal for Washington.

The Capitals entered the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the lowest-seeded team in the East, and were no match for the top-seeded New York Rangers in a 4-1 road defeat in Game 1 of this first-round series.

However, the first period seemed promising for Washington, as Charlie Lindgren made some strong saves in net while the score remained 0-0.

However, the second period was a much different story as the Rangers put up the first three goals, courtesy of Matt Rempe, Artemi Panarin, and Jimmy Vesey. Veteran Chris Kreider also scored for New York in the third.

The lone Capitals goal came 7:31 into the second when Martin Fehervary tipped the puck in off a shot attempt from Tom Wilson.

Despite those four goals allowed, Lindgren made 27 saves in the contest, and he has multiple chances to rebound in this series against a tough team.

The Rangers also beat Washington in terms of shots (31-21), hits (31-20), and faceoffs won (34-28).
