Alex Ovechkin Scores 800th Career Goal
(Caps Outsider)
With a hat-trick against Chicago, Alex Ovechkin became only the third player to score 800 career goals in the NHL. He’s now only two goals away from passing Gordie Howe, and 95 away from passing the Great One, Wayne Gretzky. With plenty of time left in this season, and three more years on his NHL contract, Ovi has plenty of time to get the all-time record. The 800th goal was his 20th of this season.
Earlier in the game, he also set the record for most game-opening goals in NHL history.
The score gave the Caps a 5-2 lead and the team left the bench to congratulate him. Even the Chicago fans cheered him. After the game, the Caps celebrated in the locker room by pouring beer all over Ovi.
Ovechkin is signed through the 2025-26 season, when he’ll be 40.
