Congratulations on 1,000 Games, Nicklas Backstrom!

(Caps Outsider)

Much like longtime teammate Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom is piling up the milestones, this time hitting a big one: 1,000 games played. This comes a few weeks after notching his 700th career assist.

The Caps wore No. 19 warm-up jerseys in the game against Buffalo, and held a pre-game ceremony to honor Backstrom. He was joined by his fiancé Liza, and their kids Haley, Vince and Alizee.

Backstrom was picked fourth overall in 2006, has more assists (714) and points (971) than any other player drafted that year. He’s also the 14th Swedish-born player to reach 1,000 games.

While this is certainly a milestone, Backstrom will most certainly be hitting the 1,000 point mark next season, so we will get to honor him yet again when the time comes.

Also see from The Washington Post: Nicklas Backstrom’s 1,000 games make him a Capitals pillar. For Backstrom, it means he’s home.
