John Walton Calls 1000th Caps Game

Via the Caps
Capitals radio announcer John Walton on Tuesday called his 1,000th Capitals game. In the first period against the Bruins, the Caps presented him with a Walton jersey and the number 1,000 on it, and the team announced it to the crowd, who applauded.
The road to 1,000 hasn’t been easy for Walton, who was promoted from the Hershey Bears in 2011, replacing Steve Kolbe. In the last year, Walton has survived colon cancer, and also lost a brother in a plane crash.
Walton is currently in third place in the all-time Caps radio games called, behind Kolbe, who called his 1,000 on November 11, 2010, and Ron Weber, who called 1,936.
