After leading the Capitals to the second best record in the NHL this past season, Spencer Carbery was named the winner of the Jack Adams award as coach of the year.
In his second year as coach of the team, Carbery became the fourth Caps coach to win the award, joining Barry Trotz, Bruce Boudreau, and Bryan Murray.
Carbery was also coach of the year in the ECHL in 2013014 while he was with the South Carolina Stingrays,and the coach of the year in 2020-21 with the Hershey Bears, both affiliates of the Caps. He is the first coach to win the honor in these three leagues.
The Capitals improved by 20 points in Carbery’s second season with the Caps and led them to the second round of the playoffs.
