Alex Ovechkin Scores 50 Again, Passes Brendan Shanahan for 13th Place on All-Time Goal Scoring List

I pass Shany…. best:)))))))))))))))) (via the Caps)

With a goal – and then another – against the Lightning on Saturday, Alex Ovechkin passed Brendan Shanahan on the all-time goal scoring list with his 657th, good for 13th place. He scored his 51st moments later.

It’s also his 8th season with 50 or more goals, though last season he had 49.

Let’s also acknowledge that with 88 points this season, Ovi has hit a nine-year high, something he hasn’t hit since his youthful 100-point seasons.

He’ll need 10 more goals to tie the next guy on the list, as Luc Robitaille is sitting in 12th place with 668 career goals.

It’s likely that the 2019-20 season will be a big one for Ovi as he continues climbing up the all-time goal scoring list. Aside from Robitaille, he’ll likely be passing Teemu Selanne (684), Mario Lemieux (690), Steve Yzerman (692), and Mark Messier (694), and will be closing on on 700 for his career.

Basically, two more seasons of Ovi pushing 50 goals will make him fourth all-time, where he’ll only have Jaromir Jagr (766), Gordie Howe (801) and Wayne gretzky (894).

Note that, if Ovechkin keeps up his current goal-scoring pace, and plays as many games as Gretzky (1,487), he’ll be the first to score 900 career goals.

Don’t bet against him.
