Ovechkin, Eller and Wilson Give Chalk Talk at MGM National Harbor

Alex Ovechkin, Lars Eller and Tom Wilson came to MGM National Harbor on Monday, in an event hosted by Fanatics and had lots to talk about. Caps reporter Mike Vogel hosted the session. Also, Jakub Vrana came and posed for photos with fans.

Things we learned:

  • Eller said his young daughter was telling EVERYONE that her father scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal, including her school bus driver and random people at the grocery store. He also said it’s been a while since it happened so she hasn’t been saying it as much lately, meaning he’ll need to do it again.
  • Despite how they partied with the Cup – Ovi said ‘they had a few beers’ – none of them wanted to be ‘that guy’ who ended up doing something crazy or stupid with Lord Stanley. They took comfort in having the handlers around to make sure of that.
  • Ovechkin and Wilson said they got permission from the police to swim in the Georgetown fountain.
  • With a packed itinerary for their ‘day with the cup’ – Eller and Wilson said they think they forgot to take photos with their close family members with the Cup.
  • Asked which opponent they would like to play with at some point, Wilson said he doesn’t like his opponents, Eller said Peter Forsberg, and Ovechkin said Sergei Fedorov, who he actually did play with so he didn’t really answer the question right.
  • When asked about music, Jason Chimera’s name was brought up as the guy who insisted on having country music played for the team. Holtby’s morning skate playlist has country music and Ovi doesn’t like it.
  • The players would prefer that the trade deadline is a day off for players. Ovi says he’d rather stay home and eat pizza that day.
  • Ovechkin was wearing a Muhammad Ali shirt. There was also an Ali picture at the silent auction.
  • Wilson had an Ovechkin jersey when he was 10.
  • Wilson credits his offensive production this season to ‘good linemates,’ and looked at Ovechkin when he said it.
  • Asked which restaurants they like best, ‘Cafe Milano’ was name-dropped by Eller and Wilson.

At the end of the talk, the Caps were presented with Challenge Coins from a fan who is in the military.
