Caps Get Challenge Coins

(Caps Outsider)

At MGM National Harbor on Monday, Alex Ovechkin, Lars Eller and Tom Wilson sat for a Chalk Talk with Caps writer Mike Vogel, where they spoke on a number of topics.

As the event was wrapping up, Vogel presented them with Challenge Coins on behalf of Staff Sergeant J.D. Ortman of the United States Army, who is a guard at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He is the 650th recipient of the Tomb Guard Identification Badge.

“United States Military personnel present and trade these amongst each other, in appreciation, for excellence, for a wide variety of things,,” Ortman said. “They brought the city the Cup, so it was just my way of saying thank you.”

Caps Outsider wrote about about Challenge Coins back when Matt Hendricks did a USO Tour.

“I had no idea,” Ortman said when asked if he knew they’d receive the coins on stage, while receiving a standing ovation of his own.

Jakub Vrana, who Ortman didn’t get to see at the event, also got one delivered to him.
