Dave Christian’s 1980 Olympic Gold Doesn’t Sell in Auction

Former Washington Capital and 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey champion Dave Christian last week put his ‘Miracle on Ice’ gold medal up for auction on Heritage Auctions, but it didn’t sell.

The Buy-it-Now price was about $350,000, which was offered after the bids failed to meet the reserve price.

However, Bill Christian, who won a gold medal in 1960, sold his gold medal for $50,190.

Both players, in their respective years, beat a heavily-favored Soviet team along the way.

Dave Christian played seven years for the Caps, including 504 games. He scored 193 goals and added 224 assists.

Roger Christian, who died in 2011, was also a member of the 1960 team. Another uncle, Gordon Christian, won a silver medal with the 1956 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team.

We’ll keep checking to see if it’s re-listed.
