In College, Nic Dowd and Nick Jensen Donated Their Hair

(Nick Jensen and Nic Dowd)

This story isn’t new but I figured I’d re-up it after NBC Sports Washington’s Nick Ashooh talked about it on Caps pregame Live on Friday.

When Caps forward Nic Dowd played hockey at St. Cloud State, he convinced teammate Nick Jensen and a few other Huskies to grow out their hair, then donate it to make wigs for Locks of Love, a charity that works with cancer patients, especially kids, who lost their hair.

“I kind of suckered them in, in a good way,” Dowd told Molly Williams of USA Today in 2013, as the players needed to grow it at least ten inches. Jensen started with a shaved head, and didn’t get it cut for 20 months.

“It doesn’t cost us anything to do. Realistically the only thing that we have to battle with is hair in our face,” Dowd told WJON in 2012 when they started. “The cost of us having to go through what we have to go through compared to what cancer patients have to go through is nothing.”

Check out the salad on Dowd. Beautiful. Just think, someone owns that now!
