2019 NHL Fan Choice Awards: Vote for Ovi!

VOTE FOR OVI! (Caps Outsider)

The voting continues for the 2019 NHL Fan Choice Awards. According to the NHL, these wacky awards celebrate the best of the best on hockey social media and give fans an opportunity to get to know their favorite players on and off the ice. Last year marked the first time for these unique awards. It was so successful that the NHL decided to continue the fun and even expand the number of categories from 10 to 20 for 2019. The categories are unconventional, such as: Best Team Dog, Best Bromance, and Best Goalie Mask, just to name a few. Submissions are posted by players and decided by you—the fans.

This year, the voting opened on May 15, and will end on Saturday, June 15. Caps’ captain Alex Ovechkin is nominated in two categories: Best Hockey Smile and Best #HockeyTwitter Moment for ‘The Summer of Ovi’. Ovechkin’s two nominations are the only selections from the Washington Capitals.

Ovi’s competitors in the Best Hockey Smile or ‘player most likely to send the tooth fairy into bankruptcy’ category are Jason Demers (Arizona Coyotes), Jeff Carter (L.A. Kings), and Dustin Byfuglien (Winnipeg Jets). But, come on, can anyone’s smile compare to Ovi’s missing toothy grin? Apparently not. At this point, the eight time Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy recipient is the frontrunner.

Best #HockeyTwitter Moment is the category where Caps’ fans really have to dig in and vote. ‘The Summer of Ovi’ is in second place behind ‘Gritty Breaks the Internet.’ The video post captured many of the Capitals’ players frolicking in the Georgetown Harbor Fountain in the days following their big Stanley Cup win. Now, that was a crazy, award-worthy hockey moment. The other two nominees in that category are ‘John Tavares Signs’ and ‘Seattle Gets a Team’.

To vote and check out all the fun categories visit this link. Time is running out! Winners will be announced on Wednesday, June 19, at NHL.com/FanChoiceAwards and celebrated in social media posts across NHL social media platforms.

Let’s Go Ovi! Let’s Go Caps!
