Three to Go: Alex Ovechkin is a Hat-Trick Away From History

With a 5-on-3 power play goal against Carolina on Wednesday, Alex Ovechkin scored his 892nd career goal, putting him only two behind tying Wayne Gretzky for the most goals in NHL history. It was his 39th goal of the season.

Ovi has scored goals in three consecutive games, and has played two fewer games (1,484) than Gretzky did in his career, making their goals-to-games total nearly identical.

Ovi is also tied for third in the league, though he is second in goals per game, considering he has missed 16 games with an injury earlier this season.
