Alex Ovechkin Is the NHL’s All-Time Goal Leader on the Road

(Caps Outsider)

With two quick goals in Tuesday’s game in Vancouver, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin passed Wayne Gretzky for all-time NHL road goals with 403. Ovechkin did this in 652 road games, compared to Gretzky’s 742. However, Gretzky’s all-time home goal lead is 102 ahead of Ovi in 99 more games. They were goals number 792 and 793 in Ovi’s career. We also believe it’s the first time Ovechkin broke one of Gretzky’s records (as opposed to merely passing him).

Ovechkin’s first goal came after creating a turnover and scoring in close on Spencer Martin.

Minutes later, he scored his second of the opening period on a one-timer from his office.

Ovechkin now sits just 101 goals behind Gretzky from tying the all-time goal scoring record, and eight from tying Gordie Howe for second all-time.
