Caps Steal Game 1 in Florida

Tom Wilson scored, but didn’t play much. (Caps Outsider)

Wow… just wow. I’m insanely impressed with what I just saw. The Caps pulled it together and managed to grab a 4-2 win with three third-period goals, and a 1-0 series lead against Florida.

After the first period, I was dejected. The Caps got out to a fantastic start, played their best hockey in almost a month, and the game was only knotted at 1. A frustrated Panthers squad managed to snag the momentum heading into the second and continued to carry it going into the third. But this team, especially Vitek Vanecek,  beat down the hatches and kept clawing. The Caps continued to pepper Sergei Bobrovsky with pucks and didn’t let the Panthers get a breath.

Right off the bat you could tell physicality was the Panthers plan, they seemed a bit too eager to start problems with Tom Wilson early. Unfortunately that plan worked better than they’d hoped with Tom Wilson exiting the game early for an “evaluation.”

This was a complete game on both ends of the ice, from Ovi’s momentum swinging poke check..

…to Nicky’s crisp pass to set up TJ’s game winner…

With the win, the Capitals take a 1-0 series lead against the best team in the league this season. LET’S GO CAPS!!!
