The Capitals fought valiantly after falling in a 3 goal hole, but unfortunately the epic home winning streak has come to an end at the hands of the Dallas Stars. Tonight’s was their first loss at home since December 29th against the New Jersey Devils. They had won a franchise-record 15 straight home games, and it’s been a fabulous ride. That tremendous streak got us thinking about how many things have happened since the Capitals last lost at Verizon Center….

1) Ovechkin Scored his 1000th Point

There have actually been a ton of great milestones in addition to Ovi’s 1000th point during this streak. Backstrom reached 500 assists, Alzner reached 500 straight games played, Trotz reached 600 victories coached, and the team reached 1500 franchise victories.

2) La La Land & Moonlight Both Won Best Picture Oscars

Normally it would take over a year for two films to win Best Picture, but this has been an odd year.

3) “President” Trump has made over 194 False Claims

The Washington Post has counted over 194 false or mis-leading claims since Trump took office, and that doesn’t even include the lies by President-Elect Trump.

4) The Earth Rotated on its Axis 67 times

That’s just a fancy way of saying it’s been 67 days since the last time the Capitals lost a home game. For those who can’t do that math, that is over two months.

5) Tom Wilson Has Scored 4 Goals

Sidney Crosby leads the league in goals scored for the season, and he’s only scored 8 in that same time period. Since the Capitals last lost at home, Tom Wilson also has 51 penalty minutes, and Sidney Crosby only has 10. Suck it, Sid!

6) Over 1 Million People Gathered in Washington, DC

Not for the sad Inauguration, but the following day for the Women’s March. It was the largest protest in American history, as millions marched from coast to coast.

7) Seven New Planets were Discovered

It’s not every day that a new planet is discovered, but seven of them have been announced since the Caps last lost a home game.

8) Over 2,650 Americans Have Died From a Gun Shot

But hey, let’s take care of that Violent Refugee epidemic we’ve heard so much about instead. More staggering Gun Stats at Gun Violence Archive.

9) The Capitals Scored 5 or More Goals 11 Times at Home

…and somehow we didn’t eat a single free chicken wing. Just saying. Those 11 times were in a row as well. Incredible.

10) The Wizards Have Gone 14-3 at Home Too!

It’s a good time to be a sports fan at the Verizon Center. Uncle Ted must be enjoying this run, but it’s about time he wins a Championship.
