Caps Face Penguins in Season Opener
Barry Trotz (Caps Outsider)
Here’s the moment we have all been waiting for. Caps hockey is finally back. The Caps are in Pittsburgh as the Penguins as they raise a banner. During the pregame festivities, the Caps will not be just sitting idle. Coach Barry Trotz has a plan, but he has not said what yet.
The game will be nationally broadcast on NBCSN. NBCSN tends to hype up the Alex Ovechkin-Sidney Crosby match-up. However, Crosby is out with a concussion. “I wish he was playing,” Trotz said.
The Caps, however, are going into the game healthy. This game will mark the NHL debut for Zach Sanford. Sanford, 21, was signed this past summer after completing his sophomore season at Boston College. He was drafted 61st overall in 2013.
Sanford and the rest of the Caps hope to get the long season underway by starting in the win column over a rival on the road.
