Home Opener, Bulldog Style

Last night marked my 13th Capitals game in front of the Verizon Center but it was my first home season opener for the Caps. I’ve hit 12 spring games over the previous 2 seasons, compiling a 10-2 record when I hang out greeting fans. I’ve only made it to one Game 7 in the playoffs, and the Caps won that game. I’m very confident in our guys against the Calgary Flames, 11-2 here we come!

Pets = Wins

Hockey fans are a superstitious lot, given my 10-2 record, it’s been said the more Caps fans that pet me, the better the Caps play. Tonight is no exception, lots of fans bend over as they pass to give me a quick pat on the head. Many more stop with requests for pictures, sure thing! Don’t mind the ogre I call Dad, standing behind you, he isn’t picking your pocket, he’s giving me a cookie to look at so you get a great picture.

Ironically, my tweeting is neutered this day outside the Verizon Center, none of my tweets are getting posted. Grrrr!

However, I am receiving tweets that I’ve made the intro to Capitals Central on CSN!

CSN, let me know when you want to add me as a sidewalk reporter. Alan May and I seem to have a good chemistry. Tweet me ;)

Lines as far as the eye can see

The lines are crazy long, all doors on F St are now open and letting fans in, the puck has dropped and fans are still outside, I will not leave until the last fan has made it inside the Phone Booth!

When the last fans have all made it in to the arena, now the frantic walk to the car & drive home to catch the 2nd period.

Has my luck run out?

By the time we get to the car, its 3-0 for the Flames, rut roh, not looking good for my winning percentage.
When we get home it is 4-1 in favor of the Flames….

All Caps fans believe, we know this team can turn it around. Captain Alex Ovechkin gets it rolling, two times just to make sure and Backstrom ties it. We go to a lopsided OT the Caps are lucky to escape, shootout with Grabovski and Ovechkin scoring and Neuvirth holding fast to secure the win!

Maybe I have some luck in me yet as Connor Carrick and Alex Ovechkin led the charge during regulation and both have taken pictures with me, hmmmm coincidence? Alcoa presents, you make the call! (What’s Alcoa? Ask your Dad, I had too)

Odds & Ends

Someone get a calculator! 11-2 record when visiting the Verizon Center!

The line for dog sitting me is long and distinguished, line starts behind Alan May.

Overall, the home opener was an exciting place to hang out, personally I love hanging out at every game, but the energy and optimism that greet a new season are especially contagious.

I’ll see you around the Verizon Center soon!
