Caps Superfan Ovie The Bulldog Takes WJLA TV Studios By Storm
It was all licks and slobber at the WJLA ABC 7 studios, Tuesday, as Washington Capitals’ superfan, Ovie the Bulldog, arrived for the taping of his guest appearance on “The Pet Show with Dr. Katy.” With his usual swagger and sporting his tailored Caps jersey, he and his owners, Mike and Kim Robertson, made their way to the studio to meet the show’s host and executive producer, Dr Katy Nelson. And, of course, it was love at first sight when Dr. Nelson met Ovie!
Capitals Outsider brought Ovie to the attention of Dr. Nelson in July, and she immediately responded and wanted to feature the adorable canine on “The Pet Show.” Ovie and his owners were invited to appear on the show to talk about how they combine their love for their pet with their enthusiasm and support for their favorite sports team. The show airs on Saturday mornings at 11:00 on Washington DC News Channel 8. The episode featuring Ovie will appear this Saturday, August 24th.
So, is Dr. Katy Nelson a hockey fan? “I’m from Louisiana so I was mainly a football fan, but after coming to Washington I have become a hockey fan,” she explained dressed in red to honor the Caps and rock the red with Ovie. “I have attended Caps games. I love it!”
In addition to being the host and executive producer of “The Pet Show with Dr. Katy” since the show made its debut in 2012, Dr. Nelson is also known as Dr. Paws on WTOP All News Radio and serves as the Animal Health Reporter for WJLA ABC Channel 7. A native of Louisiana, Dr. Nelson earned her veterinary degree from Louisiana State University’s School of Veterinary Medicine and she is also a Certified Veterinary Journalist (CVJ). She is a very busy wife, mother and pet parent. And, if all of that wasn’t enough, Dr. Nelson lends her support and expertise to numerous charitable organizations to promote good health, proper care and fun for all pets.
After the taping, I caught up with the loveable English bulldog and asked how he felt about his experience in front of all the lights and cameras. “I was excited to meet Dr. Katy and meet new friends,” he barked as he made his way home for a well deserved nap.
