Caps’ Offense Explodes for Six Goals

Hendrix Lapierre (Caps Outsider)

The Capitals offense came alive on Monday night as they cruised to a 6-3 home win over the Ottawa Senators.

It’s Washington’s fifth win in their last six games, as they remain alive in the playoff hunt.

The first period featured six total goals, with four different Capitals scoring to make it 4-2 by the end of the period.

Washington quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to tallies by Aliaksei Protas and John Carlson (who scored on the power play).

However, the Senators then went on to tie it up at 2-2, as Drake Batherson and Shane Pinto each put the puck in the net.

With under two minutes remaining in the first, Max Pacioretty and Beck Malenstyn scored 14 seconds apart to put the Caps up by two.

In the second period, after Ottawa cut the deficit to 4-3, Hendrix Lapierre scored back-to-back goals within nine minutes of each other, and Washington never looked back.

Darcy Kuemper got the start in net for the Caps and notched 18 saves in the win.

Washington improves to 27-21-9 with 63 points on the season, as they move up to fourth place in the Metropolitan Division.
