Will Kirilenko Give Ovi a Boost in Game 5?

Since Alex Ovechkin began dating – and got engaged to – tennis player Maria Kirilenko, Caps fans have noticed when she shows up to games.

Kirilenko has been in Madrid this past week, playing in the Mutua Madrid Open. She won her first two matches, but lost Thursday to Serena Williams in the third round. And she’ll likely be playing in the tournament in Rome this coming week.

But, Kirilenko has a couple days off, so she COULD be back to watch Ovechkin play in Game 5 at Verizon Center on Friday (we can’t verify this – it’s just a hunch). Ovechkin, who only has a goal and an assist in four games this series, and was held to three shots in both games at Madison Square Garden, can certainly use a boost.

While the stat sheets don’t give a breakdown of Ovi’s performance when Kirilenko is in attendance, our biased observations conclude that Ovi plays better when Kirilenko is cheering him on from the stands. Let’s hope Kirilenko makes it to the game on Friday in DC, and expect an Ovechtrick out of Ovi (which someone seriously asked about on Yahoo Questions).

Update: It appears the answer is no. But we still believe she will channel Ovi and he will play as if she’s there.
