Development Camp Day 3: Scrimmage

On the third day of Development Camp, the prospects took part in their first official scrimmage of the week. Group B ended up beating Group A by a score of 4-2 in front of a nearly standing-room-only crowd.

Caleb Herbert, Stanislav Galiev, Travis Boyd and camp invitee Aaron Schmit scored for Group B, who donned the red jerseys. Camp inviteeĀ Andrew Cherniwchan and Garrett Mitchell scored for the losing Group A, wearing white.

It was a physical game and hits were being dealt out left and right. As with all physical games, there’s a chance of injury, and during this scrimmage, Group A lost two players. In the second period, free agent invitee Wade Epp left the game favoring his left arm. UPDATE: Epp returned to play in the second scrimmage on Day 4 of camp. The other injury was to Taylor Stefishen, a trade acquisition from Nashville, who injured his right knee after a hit from Dmitry Orlov. UPDATE: Stefishen will not return to play for the rest of camp.

Among other physical play, there was a fight between Dustin Stevenson, who received an entry level deal after last year’s camp, and Garrett Ross, another invitee. Stevenson’s size helped him get and advantage and win the scrap.

Due to the injuries to Epp and Stefishen, Danick Paquette switched from Group B to Group A after the second intermission.
