Capitals Get First Shutout of the Season
The Washington Capitals sure made the dogs proud on Caps Canine Night at Capital One Arena, as they shut out the Anaheim Ducks, 3-0. It was the Caps’ first shutout victory of the season and the first time they’ve won back-to-back games since late December.
This was also Logan Thompson’s first shutout of his Capitals tenure, as he stopped all 18 shots. It was Thompson’s fifth career shutout as he improved to 19-2-3 on the year.
The Capitals struck first in the opening period when Brandon Duhaime deflected a rebound from Jakob Chychrun past Ducks goalie John Gibson. This was Duhaime’s fifth tally of the season, as he was also credited with an assist later on in the contest.
Later in the period, John Carlson scored off a turnover to make it 2-0. This was Carlson’s fourth goal of the year, not counting the three called off due to goalie interference.
In the middle frame, Ethen Frank made it 3-0 with a snipe off a feed from Pierre-Luc Dubois on a 2-on-1. This marked Frank’s second goal in three games of his NHL career since being called up from Hershey.
The Caps improved to 29-10-5 on the season as they remain atop the Metropolitan Division, and the league with 63 points.
