Alex Ovechkin scored his 50th goal of the season to put the Capitals up 3-2 against Atlanta. The Verizon Center broke out into chants of MVP, and soon after, “Crosby sucks! Crosby sucks!”
Ovechkin did not reenact his warm-his-hands-over-the-hot-stick routine he did last season. Instead he did the normal thing, hugged his linemates and bumped gloves with the bench.
With his second of the night he regained the league lead in goals.
Also, Nick Backstrom got his 100th point of the season.
