Holy Tuch! Caps Beat Sabres in OT

Alex Tuch and Dylan Strome Each Score Twice

It was a game of ups and downs for the Capitals on Saturday. Despite outshooting the Buffalo Sabres most of the game, the Caps had to fight back, take a lead, lose a lead, and then win it in overtime, as Alex Tuch scored his second of the game to give the Caps a 4-3 victory.

“It feels really good,” Tuch said after the game, the first he’s played against his former team. “I mean, it was, I really, I love playing for the Sabres, and I think everyone knows that.
And when you play against your former team, I’ve done it a couple times before, you always want to score, and to be able to get the game winner was pretty special.”

The first period started horribly for the Caps. Jack Quinn put Buffalo up, 1-0, after he skated up an undefended lane and scored. Later, a Caps turnover behind the net led directly to Josh Doan’s undefended goal.

Fortunately, Tuch scored with the help of a fortunate bounce late in the first to put the Caps back in the game, but the team’s overall play still wasn’t great. Dylan Strome tied the game early in the second period, bringing the crowd to life. Then he scored again late in the second to put the Caps up, 3-2. Early in the third, Zach Benson tied the game up.

“A lot of fun out there, Tuch said. “Some good hard battles ahead a couple times, do some checks a couple times. So, that was good, but it was weird.
I was a little bit more nervous than I thought I was gonna be, care a lot about those guys, so, but no, I was just really happy to get to win tonight.”
