Jared Staal Joins Stingrays
Despite announcing their Opening Night roster earlier in the day, head coach Spencer Carbery was not done tinkering with the Stingrays lineup. Carbery announced late yesterday that the team signed Jared Staal, an AHL and NHL veteran in the Carolina Hurricanes system.
Jared is the youngest of the four Staal brothers at 25 years-old; he played two games for the Hurricanes with his brothers, Jordan and Eric, in 2013. He started his AHL career in 2008-09 with the San Antonio Rampage and has played for the Charlotte Checkers and Providence Bruins over the years. Staal also spent parts of the 2010-11 season with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL.
While he was on the Florida Everblades Training Camp roster, the team released him earlier in the week. His move to South Carolina is classified as a trade under ECHL rules due to the Everblades filling the Thunder Bay, Ontario native’s immigration rights.
Staal will wear number 20 and will join the Stingrays for their opening weekend games.
The active roster now looks like this:
