‘Tell Quintin Laing He’s My Favorite Player’
If you were to meet a professional hockey player, would your parting words to him be “Tell Quintin Laing he’s my favorite player”?
That’s what I heard someone tell Matt Bradley the other night, and Bradley kindly responded, “I will.”
Now, Quintin Laing is certainly a fan favorite, a gritty, shot-blocking, hard nosed forward who deserves accolades, and it’s not uncommon to spot his jersey – Caps or Bears – being worn around Verizon Center.
But the exchange of words made me think: What if it became a running joke for fans to tell Caps that Laing is their favorite player? It would be hilarious.
Think about it. You can’t say Alex Ovechkin cause that’s not a joke. You could say Alex Semin but Semin might not get the joke. Green and Backstrom are too obvious, so who better to pick than Laing?
So I’d like to start a grass roots campaign for all fans who meet players to say “Tell Quintin Laing he’s my favorite player” for a few weeks and hope it gains momentum.
At the very least, Matt Bradley would think it’s funny.
