Alex Ovechkin’s Playoff Goals: Who He’s Scored On, and Who He Hasn’t
We all know that Alex Ovechkin is the greatest regular season goal-scorer in the NHL, and he’s led the Caps to one of the top records in the league in the last 20 years and won a Stanley Cup. Though the Caps haven’t fared as well in the playoffs, Ovi’s post-season scoring is still nothing to sneeze at, as he has 75 goals before Sunday’s game against Montreal.
Caps Outsider looked at every goalie Ovechkin has played against, and how he’s fared.
The goalie he’s played against the most in the postseason is Henrik Lundqvist, having scored 13 goals against him in 33 games. However, he also has 13 against Marc-André Fleury, though he’s only played 19 games against him (which seems like more for some reason).
There are only three goalies who haven’t given up goals to Ovechkin in the playoffs: Michal Neuvirth in three games (Neuvirth never gave up a regular season goal to Ovi, either), Igor Shesterkin in four games (Ovi has scored five against him in the regular season), and Brian Elliott in one game (Ovi has 11 against him in the regular season). This makes Neuvirth – a former teammate – the only goaltender who hasn’t given up a goal to Ovi in the regular season or the playoffs.
Ovi has faced the same goalie on multiple teams three times: Jaroslav Halák for Montreal and the Islanders, Fleury for Pittsburgh and Las Vegas, and Sergei Bobrovsky for Florida and Columbus. Ovi hasn’t been shut out by any of these goalies on either team they played for in the playoffs.
In wins, Ovi has 46 goals, while in losses, Ovi has 29 goals. He’s got 11 game-winning goals, one of which was in overtime recently, and no empty-netters.
This list will be updated after each game.
