Three More Years of Trevor van Riemsdyk!

The Capitals’ offseason needs are bigger than ever this year, as expiring contracts and sudden cap-space from late-season trades-for-picks opened up space.

At 31, Trevor van Riemsdyk could have been one of those players worth a trade-deadline draft pick, but with the Caps needing defense, they signed him to a three-year contract extension, worth on average $3 million a year.

Other signed Caps defensemen include John Carlson, Nick Jensen, and Rasmus Sandin, so expect more moves, especially with the restricted free agents, like Martin Fehérváry and Alexander Alexeyev.

The Middletown, New Jersey native has a career-high 19 points (7 goals, 12 assists) in 66 games this season.

TVR has recorded 108 points (24g, 84a) in 522 career games with Washington, the Carolina Hurricanes and Chicago Blackhawks. van Riemsdyk has appeared in 32 career Stanley Cup playoff games and won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2015.
