Blowouts! How Alex Ovechkin Did in Runaway Victories

“Hey Nic, I bet ya that both of us will score tonight.” – Anthony Mantha, probably (Caps Outsider)

Saturday’s 9-2 victory marked the 19th time the Caps have run a team out of the building by a score of at least 7-2 during the Alex Ovechkin era. Note that I’m arbitrarily picking 7 since it’s a touchdown, though 6-1 and 5-0 victories are just as dominant.

This made us wonder how Ovi did in these games. Only once, in a 10-2 win against Boston did he truly feast, as he put up three goals and two assists. That marked the only time he had more than three points in one of these games. He had two hat tricks in these games, including on Saturday. Twice he was held pointless, and two other times, he wasn’t even in the lineup. The most notable game came in 2016 against Ottawa when he scored his 500th career goal.

Three of these blowouts were against Boston and Philadelphia. Eight were on the road.
