Congratulations, Nicklas Backstrom, on 1,000 Career Points

(via the Caps)

Longtime Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom scored his 1,000th career point on Wednesday in Edmonton, a period after getting what appeared to be the milestone after a John Carlson goal was called back on a challenged-offside call. Backstrom also scored his 999th point with a first period goal.

T.J. Oshie scored the power play goal for the Caps off of Backstrom’s pass.

It was a long time coming for Backstrom, who missed much of the season already due to injury. Point No. 1,000 came on his 20th point of the season.

He was the 93rd player in NHL history to get 1,000 points. The point also came in Backstrom’s 1,001 game playing with Alex Ovechkin.
