Steve Seftel’s Shattered Ice

Former Baltimore Skipjacks forward Steve Seftel has a new book out called “Shattered Ice.”

Seftel only played four games for the Caps in the 1990-91 season and certainly didn’t leave a lasting impact on the team. But that doesn’t make is story any less interesting. Sure, he’s got stories of playing with Dale Hunter and John Druce, and also coaches such as Bryan Murray, Terry Murray, and Barry Trotz, but just about every player has stories like that.

What sets this book apart is Seftel’s struggle with mental illness along the way, something that certainly wouldn’t have been taken as seriously 30 years ago. He writes of his diagnosis of anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder and panic disorder and how it affected him in the minor leagues on his way to the NHL.
