Photos: Tenth and Final Leap Towards a Cure Hockey Tournament

(Photos by Caps Outsider)

The Gardens Ice house hosted the tenth and final Leap Towards a Cure hockey tournament and community festival this past weekend, where $26,000 was raised to benefit pediatric oncology at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, via the Andrea Henderson Memorial Fund. That brings the ten-year total to about $190,000 raised.

The event started in 2010 as a tribute to Andrea ‘Froggy’ Henderson, an art teacher at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Md., who passed away from breast cancer that year. Mrs. Henderson was a highly respected teacher, influencing countless students.

Caps Outsider has been involved in most of these events from the beginning so we’re sad to see it end, but we toasted to ten great years following the final game on Sunday. Here are some of the photos. If you suspect I have more of you and would like to see them, please email me at [email protected].

It’s not too late to donate! Donations by check should be made out to “Andrea Henderson Memorial Fund” and may be sent to: Andrea Henderson Memorial Fund, Inc, 7717 Riley Rd, Severn, MD 21144. The Andrea Henderson Memorial Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) so all donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Donations from player participants are not fully tax deductible and players seeking a tax deduction should contact [email protected] with questions.
