Wayne Gretzky Hangs at the Caps Game

Soon to be the second-place NHL goal scorer Wayne Gretzky came to the Capitals/Blackhawks game on Friday to watch Alex Ovechkin chase down his NHL goal record.

In the first period, Ovi scored his 893rd goal, one behind Gretzky’s record. Then Gretzky came up to the press box and stood in a huge media scrum to answer questions.

He said he’s rooting for Ovi and told stories about how Gordie Howe was pulling for him when he originally broke Howe’s record of 801. He said he had known Howe since he was 10 years old and remembers Howe and his wife giving him a gift after breaking the record.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman was there too, but no one asked him any questions.
