Nicklas Backstrom Becomes 7th 20-Goal Scorer for the Caps

Caps center Nicklas Backstrom scored in the first period of the Caps/Lightning game on Saturday, becoming the 7th Caps player to hit the 20-goal mark this season. He’d score another in the second period for his 25th career 2-goal game.

Backstrom joins Alex Ovechkin, T.J. Oshie, Jakub Vrana, Brett Connolly, Tom Wilson and Evgeny Kuznetsov in that crew.

It’s the most 20-goal scorers the Caps have had since the high-scoring 2009-10 season, and also the 6th time the team overall has hit that number. Only once did they do better, when they had nine 20-goal scorers in 1992-93.

It’s also the fourth season in a row Backstrom has scored 20 or more, and the 6th time overall, though he’s hit 18 three other times. His career high was 33.
