Caps Lose First Game When Alex Ovechkin Has a Hat Trick

(Caps Outsider)

After not having scored a goal in more than a week, Alex Ovechkin broke out of his ‘slump’ on Tuesday, scoring three goals in a 7-6 loss against the Sharks.

Unfortunately, it was a bad play by Ovechkin that led to the loss, and he said as much after the game. Late in the game, with an empty net for San Jose, the puck landed on Ovechkin’s stick. Instead of dumping the puck, he shot it toward the open net – with Brent Burns in the way. The puck hit Burns, which gave the Sharks another chance. They capitalized, then won in overtime.

It was the first time the Capitals lost a game when Ovechkin had a hat trick, making them 22-1 when Ovi scores three or more. It was also the 6th consecutive loss for the Caps.
