Devante Smith-Pelly Stanley Cup Bobblehead Review

(Caps Outsider)

The Washington Capitals are Stanley Cup Champions and that means one thing… WE GET BOBBLEHEADS! As we detailed already, there are going to be 24 Stanley Cup-themed bobbleheads, produced by FOCO, available come September. Since that’s still a ways away we thought it would be fun to spend that time taking a closer look at each bobblehead included in this lineup.

The Caps signed Devante Smith-Pelly to a one-year, league minimum deal prior to the 2017-18 NHL season. He would go on to suit up in 75 of 82 regular season games, finishing with 7 goals and 16 points during that span. Nothing too flashy, modest numbers for a fourth line winger getting minimal deployments, but then the Stanley Cup playoffs game around.

Devante would start the playoffs with a goal in his very first game, which ended in a loss, but bookend that same series with a second goal in the series-clinching game 6 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He then went goalless in the following series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but then repeated his trend and scored two more goals in the series against the Tampa Bay Lightning. All of this set the stage for the Stanley Cup Finals against the Vegas Golden Knights. In Game 3, he scored a goal to put the Caps up 3-1 and ice the game. In Game 4 he topped off a 3 goal first period en route to a 6-2 win.

Finally, in Game 5, the potential Stanley Cup clinching game, when the Caps were down 3-2 with just over 10 minutes to go in the third, he caught an incredible pass from Brooks Orpik and tied the game which was eventually won, crowning the Washington Capitals, Stanley Cup Champions.

How’s the pasta, Devante? His stoic expression and thick beard that put so many integral pucks in the back of the net make this bobblehead a memorable one. While he won’t be a hot bobblehead, flying off the shelves, but he was integral to the team’s success.

You can order this, and many others, from the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum.
