One day after the Stanley Cup championship parade, Capitals winger Devante Smith-Pelly signed autographs at the DICKS in Gaithersburg.

To keep control over the crowd, DICKS handed out 350 red wristbands starting at 9 am which guaranteed an autograph from the Stanley Cup champion. People were lining up as early as  7 am to get those wristbands. Those participants were then let in at 5, but some started lining up as early as 2. Overall, close to a thousand people showed up.

Those who did not get red wristbands were given blue wristbands which did not guarantee anything. Many people lined up both inside and outside the store.

Smith-Pelly arrived to chants of “DSP” and to “We are the Champions” on the speakers.

“Its awesome,” Smith-Pelly said of the crowd.

While the team has yet to officially receive an invite to the White House, Smith-Pelly was asked if he still plans on not attending if an invite is extended.

“I said what I said. I stand by that.” Smith-Pelly added that he was not worried about that because he is still celebrating.

As the event was sponsored by DICKS, fans were required to purchase something at the store to be autographed, or given the choice of a player card or an “ALLCHAMPS” sign.
