Chandler Stephenson Re-Signs for Two Years

(Caps Outsider)

The Capitals announced that Chandler Stephenson has re-signed on a two year contract. In the 2017-2018 season he will be on a two-way deal ($650,000/$150,00), then in 2018-19 he will be on a one way deal ($650,000).

Stephenson, 23, played in four Caps games last year, and has a career total of 13 NHL games under his belt. In Hershey last year, he registered 38 points in 72 games. In the playoffs, he had five points in nine games.

Stephenson is not waivers-exempt this year so it will be interesting if the Caps keep him up all season, even if he does not play often. I see Stephenson as a great future 4th line center. He is a lot like Jay Beagle. He kills penalties and is good at faceoffs. If the Caps were to make a trade to acquire a top four defenseman, do not be surprised if Beagle is moved out to help clear some cap space, as the Caps may have his replacement in Stephenson.
