Holtby Ties Single Season Wins Record

(Caps Outsider)

In just his 66th game of the season, Caps goaltender Braden Holtby won his 48th game Saturday, which ties Martin Brodeur for the most victories by a goalie in a single season. Brodeur, who is an assistant general manager for St. Louis and witnessed Holtby’s feat, did it in 78 games, 12 more than Holtby.

Holtby might not get to break the record as Philipp Grubauer will likely be starting the second of a back-to-back against Anaheim on Sunday.

Something else is up for grabs Sunday when the Caps face the Ducks: The William M. Jennings Trophy, which is awarded to the team with the fewest goals allowed this season. The Kings, the Ducks and the Caps are the top three teams in the league in this department.

The Caps have given up 191, while the Ducks have given up 192. The Kings have given up 195. It’ll be a photo-finish, folks!
