With Charity, Caps Fans Make A Big Difference

(Caps Outsider)

The Monumental Sports and Entertainment Foundation is a philanthropic organization that has been in existence since 2013. It encompasses the charitable initiatives of the Capitals, the Wizards and the Mystics. The goal of the MSE Foundation is to maximize its impact and involvement in the community by supporting five specific areas of need throughout the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The foundation’s focus includes youth basketball and hockey, education and scholarship, pediatric health and fitness, military and veterans’ affairs and hunger and homelessness.

Each season, Caps fans have the opportunity to participate in a variety of exciting fundraising events at Verizon Center during home games. Events such as Pick-A-Stick (Fans have the chance to pay a specified amount for a hockey stick signed by one of the Caps. If a fan chooses an unsigned stick, they get to meet a Caps player and have their stick signed in person!), Fall/Spring Puck Surprise (Fans pay to choose a puck with the same possible outcome as Pick-A-Stick), and Courage Caps (Fans purchase cool military themed Capitals baseball caps to benefit Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors – TAPS) are just a few of the charitable events that raise much needed funds for the MSE Foundation.

Other events, such as Casino Night, are held away from the arena. Casino Night is a very popular event which is attended by all of the Caps’ players, alumni and coaching staff. Just imagine playing casino games side by side with your favorite player! There is also a raffle and silent auction featuring game-used equipment and autographed memorabilia as well as a live auction featuring interactive experiences with Capitals players and coaches. This year Casino Night will be held on Saturday, November 14 from 6-10pm at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel in Arlington, VA. MVP tickets sell for $250 per person and VIP tickets are $450 per person. This event has been the Caps’ biggest fundraiser each year.

For more information about Casino Night and all of the programs that benefit from the MSE Foundation’s charitable events, visit the Caps official web site at http://capitals.nhl.com/   By participating in these events, Caps fans continue to make a big difference!
