Pet Adoption Awareness Day at Verizon Center

(Photos by Caps Outsider)

Nothing jams up the main concourse at the Verizon Center like–no, not Alex Ovechkin— puppies!  Cute, cuddly, adoptable puppies! Saturday was Pet Adoption Awareness Day during the Capitals home game against the Predators.  Fans loved the hockey game but couldn’t get enough of the sweet puppies brought to them by Homeward Trails Animal Rescue from Arlington and Fairfax Station, VA.

Homeward Trails rescues homeless dogs and cats from shelters where animal overpopulation is high and adoption is low.  This can result in needless euthanasia of many adoptable pets.  They also work with owners who can no longer keep their animals to find them acceptable new homes.

In addition to their rescue efforts, Homeward Trails works to promote legislation that will make the world a better place for animals. They partner with shelters, vets, trainers, and other animal professionals, and work with adopters to find the best person/pet match.

Fans can visit www.homewardtrails.org to see photos and descriptions of available animals or to make a donation.  This is just another way the Washington Capitals organization works to help members the community with or without wagging tails.
