Former Cap Dave Christian Selling His Miracle on Ice Medal

Dave Christian, bottom right, with other Caps alumni, came to D.C. to watch the Winter Classic in 2015. (Caps Outsider)

Former Capital Dave Christian, who in 1980 won a gold medal in Lake Placid after a ‘miracle’ run, is selling his Olympic gold medal. His father, Bill Christian, who won a gold medal in 1960, is selling his gold medal as well. Both players, in their respective years, beat a heavily-favored Soviet team along the way.

Christian played seven years for the Caps, including 504 games. He scored 193 goals and added 224 assists.

The medals are up for bid on Heritage Auctions. Current bid for Dave Christian’s is $150,000. Bill Christian’s is currently at $15,000.

Roger Christian, who died in 2011, was also a member of the 1960 team. No word on what happened to his medal. Another uncle, Gordon Christian, won a silver medal with the 1956 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team.
