Fan Recounts Giving Girlfriend’s Stick Back to Mike Green

Green is thrilled to get one of his sticks back. (via Steve Lipman)

With Caps defenseman Mike Green trying to get his hands on as many discontinued Easton Stealth CNT sticks as possible, fans have been generously returning ones that they had purchased from equipment sales, etc. Caps Outsider reader Steve Lipman recounts his experience.

My girlfriend and I went to Kettler early [Wednesday] morning to meet Mike Green and trade him for one of his old CNT sticks.  It was one of his game-used sticks from years ago that he signed.  The stick was a gift to my girlfriend from her sister.  It had been sitting in the corner of her bedroom for years.  I heard about Green using the stick again and his search for more.  I told my girlfriend about the search and said she should get her stick back to Green.  It took some convincing and she wanted to get her sister’s blessing.  After she agreed to it, I contacted a buddy of mine who works in the locker room for the Caps and told him to tell Green.  He told Green and got back to me, saying Green wanted the stick.  It took a couple weeks to set it up, but my buddy told me to come to Kettler before team photo time on Wednesday to meet with Green and trade him for a newer signed stick.  My girlfriend and I woke up early and drove to Kettler.  She had never been and I hadn’t been in a long time.  She was excited to see not just Green, but the entire team.

So we got there at 10 a.m. and my buddy fetched Green, and he comes walking out with a brand new stick ready to sign.  His eyes got real big when he saw the stick we had.  We handed it over and he happily signed the stick he brought out and gave it to us.  We talked a few minutes.  He definitely seemed really appreciative that we brought him the stick.  I asked him how many he had now (he broke one after his goal the night before) and he said that the stick we just gave him was his fourth.

That was about it.  We stayed and watched the photo session and some of practice before leaving.  Mike was a really nice guy and we’re glad that we were able to help out.  She still has a signed stick to show for it.  She wanted tickets too, but we forgot to ask!
