Capitals Add Dubois and Mangiapane

Farewell, Darcy Kuemper (Caps Outsider)

With the 2024 NHL Draft and Free Agency approaching, the Washington Capitals have already made a couple offseason trades.

Back on June 19th, the Caps acquired center Pierre-Luc Dubois from the Los Angeles Kings for goalie Darcy Kuemper.

Dubois, who just turned 26, had 40 points (16 goals, 24 assists) this past regular season and one goal in the playoffs for Los Angeles. He previously had stints with the Winnipeg Jets and Columbus Blue Jackets, the team that drafted him No. 3 overall in 2016.

Kuemper, 34, spent the past two seasons in Washington after winning a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022. In 2023-24, he went 13-14-3 with a 3.31 goals against average, .890 save percentage, and one shutout in 33 games (30 starts), and was the backup to Charlie Lindgren.

Then, on June 27th, the Capitals acquired forward Andrew Mangiapane from the Calgary Flames for a 2025 second-round pick which originally belonged to the Avalanche.

Mangiapane, 28, had 40 points (14 goals, 26 assists) for the Flames in 75 games this past season. He had spent his whole career in Calgary where he had 215 points (109 goals, 106 assists) in 417 games.
