Zach Sanford Scores First NHL Goal When Caps Need It Most
(Caps Outsider)
Capitals rookie Zach Sanford scored his first NHL goal Saturday, breaking a 4-4 tie late in the game against Anaheim to help secure the Caps’ 6-4 victory.
Needless to say, he was swarmed by reporters after the game, even when Nicklas Backstrom came out to speak. Backstrom had another three point night, which gave him 60 points which at least temporarily was tied for the league lead. Backstrom also got his 700th career point. But Sanford was the story.
Barry Trotz said that Sanford still may bounce back and forth between Hershey and Washington, but that he gets more confidence every time he comes back. In fact, the Caps re-assigned him right after the game since the Caps don’t have any games until next Saturday for their league-mandated bye-week.
