Life-Sized Capitals Bobbleheads at Capital One Arena

While celebrating their 50th anniversary, the Capitals aren’t only giving out bobbleheads for each major era of Capitals hockey, but unveiling life-sized bobbleheads in the concourse at Capital One Arena.

On Saturday, two new ones were added to the original two as Olaf Kolzig and Peter Bondra joined Rod Langway and Mike Gartner. Unlike the stadium giveaway bobbleheads, these aren’t connected together, but still look identical to the ones given away. Their heads actually bobble and fans were eager to get their photos taken with them.

There are two more to come, when the Caps celebrate the current era of the team and give away Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom bobbleheads on March 7.

Other life-sized ones exist. The Cincinnati Reds have one of their mascot, Mr. Redlegs. The NCAA has one of basketball player Mateen Cleaves. Several minor league baseball teams, like the Harrisburg Senators, made life-sized ones, including of late journalist Gregg Mace.

Caps Outsider estimates that there are 20,502 of the stadium giveaway bobbleheads made, plenty for each fan in attendance plus extras that the Caps will likely distribute in other ways. Those have already hit eBay and are selling for between $30 and $40 right now.
