Today was a special day at Capital One Arena as the Capitals celebrated #TJ1K Day in honor of T.J. Oshie playing in 1,000 NHL contests, with Washington getting the job done for the 3-0 shutout victory over the Winnipeg Jets.

Coming off a two-goal game two nights ago, Alex Ovechkin netted two goals in the third period to increase his season total to 26 and his career total to 848.

This marked Ovechkin’s 172nd multi-goal game, trailing only Wayne Gretzky who has 189 career multi-goal games.

Ovechkin has also now scored two goals in three of his last four games, and his 17 goals scored since Feb. 4th are tied with Kirill Kaprizov for the third-most in the NHL.

After two scoreless periods, John Carlson fired a one-timer from the point for a power play goal and the first tally of the contest early in the third.

Charlie Lindgren also posted his fifth shutout of the season, which makes him tied for second in the league. He stopped 27 shots in the win.

With the win, the Capitals earned two points to put them back into a playoff position, as they improve to 35-26-9 with 79 points on the year.
